System & Regular BoilerServicing in Hazel GroveFor Cylinder-Based Systems.
Larger family homes and older properties run on system and heat-only boilers with hot water cylinders, a very different animal from a combi and one that deserves servicing by someone who actually understands unvented cylinders, pumps, and expansion vessels.
System & Regular Boiler Servicing, done properly.
System boilers and regular (heat-only) boilers work with a hot water cylinder rather than heating water on demand. That means an annual service needs to look at more than just the boiler, it needs to consider the pump, the expansion vessel, the motorised valves, and the cylinder's own controls. That's the service we do.
The boiler itself gets the same manufacturer-spec strip-down and combustion analysis as any service. Then we check pump operation, expansion vessel pre-charge (both boiler and, where fitted, cylinder), zone/motorised valves, temperature controls, and the state of the system water, because dirty water is what kills pumps and heat exchangers.
Larger family homes, older properties, houses with an airing cupboard cylinder, homes with underfloor heating, and any property where the boiler drives a cylinder rather than the taps directly. Common across the older streets of Marple, Bramhall, Cheadle Hulme and the leafier parts of Stockport.
Annually. If the boiler is older and hasn't been serviced regularly, book sooner rather than later, pumps and motorised valves that haven't been checked for a few years are the classic reason for a winter no-heat callout.
A cylinder-based system has more moving parts than a combi and more places for problems to hide. A service that only looks at the boiler misses the pump about to seize, the motorised valve stuck half-open, and the expansion vessel that's lost its pre-charge. All of those become full repairs if they're not caught.
Real jobs, real results.

The cost of putting it off.
System and regular boilers age gracefully when serviced and badly when they aren't. Here's what typically happens when a cylinder-based system is left to its own devices.
Pump failure in December
Central heating pumps have a service life. They fail with warning signs (noise, intermittent heat) that a service catches, or they fail in the middle of a cold snap.
Stuck motorised valves
Zone valves that aren't exercised seize. Heating comes on when hot water is called for, or hot water goes cold. Common, cheap to prevent, expensive to ignore.
Cylinder scaling
Unvented cylinders scale up in the Stockport water area faster than most homeowners realise. Un-serviced cylinders lose recovery time and eventually their coil.
Dirty system water
Sludge and magnetite in the system water erode pumps and block heat exchangers. Ignored, it turns into a full powerflush job.
- Assuming an airing-cupboard cylinder never needs looking at.
- Never touching the expansion vessel(s), one of the most common causes of pressure loss.
- Booking a boiler service that only opens the boiler and ignores the rest of the system.
A clear five-step system.
No guessing, no meter-running. Every job follows the same repeatable process, that's how the result stays consistent.

What you actually get.
Whole-system view
You don't just get a boiler serviced, you get the system that surrounds it looked at properly.
Fewer surprise breakdowns
Pumps and valves fail with warning signs. We catch them before you're calling on a snowy Monday.
Efficient hot water
Cylinder controls tuned means quicker hot water recovery and less standing heat loss.
Warranty preserved
Manufacturer service schedule kept and logged, no arguments if a warranty claim is ever needed.
Cleaner system water
Regular servicing highlights sludge build-up early, before it costs a full flush.

The detail that matters.
System and regular boilers are often lumped together, but there are real differences that matter at service time.
System boilers
Sealed pressurised systems with the expansion vessel and pump built into the boiler. Common on modern installs from Worcester Greenstar Si, Vaillant ecoTEC System, Ideal Logic System. Service focus: internal expansion vessel pre-charge, pump operation, and system pressure stability.
Regular (heat-only) boilers
Open-vented systems with a feed-and-expansion tank in the loft and a separate cylinder in the airing cupboard. Common in older Bramhall, Marple and Davenport properties. Service focus: header tank condition, ball valve operation, gravity/pumped hot water configuration.
Unvented cylinders
Megaflo, Santon Premier and equivalents. Servicing includes checking the tundish, safety valves and expansion vessel. In hard-water areas of Stockport, cylinder scaling is a real long-term issue and we'll flag it before it becomes a replacement.
S-plan and Y-plan systems
Motorised valve configurations that control how the boiler serves the cylinder and radiators. Understanding which system you have, and exercising the valves annually, is the single biggest reason system-boiler service quality varies between engineers.
