Thermostat & HeatingControl Install / Repairin Hazel Grove & Stockport
New room stat, upgraded timer, smart heating control, or a motorised valve gone stubborn. Fitted, wired, commissioned and warrantied by a Gas Safe engineer who's been doing it since 1986.
Thermostat & Heating Control Install / Repair, done properly.
Heating controls are where a decent boiler either becomes a comfortable home or a source of confused arguments. Upgraded controls save gas, extend the boiler's life, and, if they're programmable or smart, give you the ability to actually run the heating around your life rather than the other way round.
Installation and repair of every domestic heating control: room thermostats (wired and wireless), programmable timers, smart controls (Nest, Hive, Tado, Honeywell), cylinder thermostats, motorised zone valves, wiring centres and boiler-side interlocks.
Anyone whose heating currently runs off a broken timer, a thermostat that lies about the temperature, or no controls at all. Also anyone moving from a mechanical timer to a smart control and wanting it commissioned properly rather than left half-wired.
Whenever your existing controls are inaccurate, broken, or hopelessly out of date. Also a great job to bundle in with an annual service, separately it's a call-out; together it's an efficient visit.
Because a £30 thermostat swap can shave 10% off a gas bill, and a smart control paired with proper commissioning can save more again. Also: half the 'my heating is wrong' complaints in Stockport homes turn out to be a control problem, not a boiler problem.
The cost of putting it off.
Bad or broken controls cost more than most people realise, in ways that don't show up on any one bill.
Overheated or cold rooms
A room stat that's lying by 2°C is either overheating your house or leaving you shivering. Both are expensive.
Boiler running when nobody's home
Broken timers with the schedule wiped are a very common finding on old installations. Small daily overrun, big annual bill.
Stuck zone valves
A motorised valve that isn't switching means either heating always on or hot water and heating fighting each other. Neither is efficient.
Smart controls fitted but not commissioned
Very common, the app works, but the boiler-side wiring and interlock aren't set. You lose most of the efficiency gains.
- DIY smart-thermostat installs on unfamiliar wiring, dangerous and often incorrect.
- Assuming a battery change fixes an obviously failing thermostat.
- Fitting a smart control to a boiler that doesn't have the right interlock, no efficiency gain.
A clear five-step system.
No guessing, no meter-running. Every job follows the same repeatable process, that's how the result stays consistent.
- 01
Survey your existing setup
Boiler type, wiring, current controls and how you actually use the heating.
- 02
Recommend controls
Honest advice on the right level, a decent programmable stat is enough for many; smart is worth it for others.
- 03
Install & wire
Boiler isolated, existing controls removed, new controls wired to manufacturer spec and boiler-side interlock set.
- 04
Commission
Zones tested, schedules set, smart control paired and boiler load-tested against the new controls.
- 05
Show you the controls
Walk through the app or panel with you so you can actually use it. 12-month workmanship guarantee.
What you actually get.
Real gas savings
Correctly commissioned controls typically save 8–15% on annual gas use.
Boiler cycles less
Fewer starts and stops means longer boiler life and quieter operation.
Room-by-room comfort
With TRVs and modern controls, each room runs to its own schedule.
Smart control done properly
Nest, Hive, Tado, Honeywell, all fitted and commissioned to boiler-side interlock.
Backwards-compatible
Older boilers with fewer wiring options are still upgradable, we know the workarounds.
One visit fix
Common repairs (stuck valves, dead timers) done same-day where the part is on the van.
The detail that matters.
Heating controls are the least glamorous part of a heating system and the part that gives the biggest efficiency return per pound spent.
Programmable room thermostats
The everyday workhorse. Modern programmable stats can hold multiple schedules, learn behaviour, and communicate wirelessly with the boiler, all without a smartphone. Ideal for households who don't want app-driven controls.
Smart controls
Nest, Hive, Tado, Honeywell Evohome and equivalent. Full smart control gives geofencing, per-room zoning (with wireless TRVs), and detailed usage analytics, but they only deliver savings if the boiler-side interlock is correctly commissioned.
Motorised zone valves & wiring centres
S-plan and Y-plan systems rely on motorised valves and a wiring centre to route heating and hot water. Failed valves and dead wiring centres are among the most common causes of 'partial' heating faults.
Cylinder thermostats
In cylinder-based systems, the cylinder stat governs how hot the water goes and when the boiler stops firing. A wrongly-set cylinder stat is a very common cause of high gas bills in older homes.
